Switzerland Residence Permit

Switzerland Residence Permit for non-EEA nationals

Switzerland offers a high quality lifestyle to its residents and ranks amongst the top countries in the world to live in, as it boasts a multicultural and multilingual society, has admirable reputation for its infrastructure, banking and education systems and is politically and economically stable.
The Swiss taxation system is consistent with the country’s reputation as a centre of international trade and finance, and it caters to foreign investment in Switzerland with very few restrictions on Swiss investment boards. A flat rate tax (Forfait Fiscal) is available for qualified foreign citizens, regardless of worldwide income, with minimum charges depending on different cantons and other factors; however, the flat rate is not applicable in all cantons.

There are different residency categories, for EU/EFTA citizens and for other foreign persons (non EU/EFTA). For the first category the key requirements are to have employment in Switzerland or be a person of independent financial means, while for the latter category citizens can obtain residence permits on the basis of a) gainful employment, b) as retirees with pre-existing ties with Switzerland or c) as financially independent persons who are not in employement in Switzerland and pay considerable amounts of annual taxes.

Permanent Residency in Switzerland provides visa-free travel to all Schengen states, and the typical time for application varies from two to four months, depending on individual circumstances.

Citizenship is difficult to be obtained in Switzerland, as there is a requirement for physical residence of minimum 12 years in addition to other requirements that may apply.
The typical processing time for applications is two to four months, depending on the canton and on individual circumstances.
