UAE Residence Visa - UAE Permanent Residency

UAE Residence Visa - UAE Residence Permit

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is an important country in the Arab Gulf, with Dubai being the second largest city and ranking as the UAE's most important port and commercial centre. Over the past years, the UAE has increasingly emerged as one of the most popular jurisdictions worldwide for residency between high net worth individuals (HNWIs), and even becoming a preferred alternative to traditional jurisdictions such as the UK, Switzerland, Monaco and Singapore. There is little crime in the UAE and the country is clean with modern facilities.
Citizens and residents of the UAE are not subject to personal income tax, property and capital gains taxes, or net worth taxes, but do not have as good visa free travel as other countries on the GRPI. There is no minimum investment requirement to obtain a UAE Residence Permit but establishment of a company in the UAE is required in most cases. Once the company has been fully set up and is in possession of the relevant trade license, the time frame for the process is usually one to two months, which is very quick.

Individuals, other than UAE and GCC citizens, must have a UAE residence visa if they want to live in the UAE. Obtaining a residence permit is the primary condition for being considered as resident in the UAE. As a general rule, one has to have a sponsor in order to apply for a residence permit in the jurisdiction.

For many expatriates, the company that employs them will act as their sponsor and secure them the residence visa. For those who do not come on an employment contract, there are two other ways for obtaining the UAE residence permit: either through investment in real estate (property residence visa), or by set up of a corporate structure to act as a sponsor.

With no taxes applied on individuals, straightforward administrative requirements and low processing costs, coupled with political stability, excellent accessibility and sunny weather all round, the UAE is indeed a very attractive proposal as a residency jurisdiction.
