Anguilla Residency By Investment (ARBI)

On 23 August 2018 Anguilla formally announced its plans to launch a residence by investment programme with investments starting at US$150.000.  The British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean is set to launch the programme tentatively at the 4th quarter of 2018.

According to the announcement, the investment options for applicants will be:
  • US$150.000 Investment in a Capital Development Fund
The Capital Development Fund which shall be established by the Government of Anguilla for the purpose of financing public sector projects in an effort to grow, develop and diversity Anguilla’s economy. It is not yet clear whether this shall be technically an investment or a redeemable donation.
  • US$750.000 Investment in Real Estate
Under this investment option, the applicant must buy or construct real estate on the island valued at a minimum value of US$750.000. The investment must be help for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Tax Residency
The granting of a certificate of Tax Residency in Anguilla is also currently being explored.

The residency programme is also said to allow for a route to BOTC & British Status.

Permanent Resident status can be an attractive route to becoming a British Overseas Territories Citizen and eventually a British Citizen: following 5 years of continuous physical residence (9 months in a year), investors are eligible to obtain British Overseas Territory Citizen (BOCT) status.

Although BOCTs are not considered as citizens of the UK, there are several routes available for those who wish to apply, however, spending considerable amounts in the UK will be necessary.
